About Us

The Council of the Prince Edward Island Association

Our Board.

The Council of the PEICA consists of three members nominated by the PEICA members and appointed by the Minister. Two members must be chiropractors from the Association, and one must be a layperson who represents the interests of the general public.

The Council's mandate is to regulate the chiropractic profession in Prince Edward Island, uphold high standards of practice, and protect the public's well-being in relation to chiropractic care. This structure ensures a fair and balanced approach to maintaining safe, professional, and competent chiropractic services.

Public safety is protected through rules established under the Chiropractic Act, which define the qualifications required to practice as a chiropractor. Registration requires specific education, passing examinations, and meeting competency standards.

After registration as a member of the PEI Chiropractic Association, the Council continues its regulatory oversight by enforcing professional ethical guidelines and standards of practice. Chiropractors must maintain ongoing competency through mandatory continuing education, first aid certification, and training in proper record keeping.

If concerns arise about a chiropractor’s conduct, the Council is responsible for investigating complaints and taking disciplinary action when necessary. An investigator may be appointed to look into the matter and report back to the Council.

For more detailed information about the Council’s role and responsibilities, refer to the Chiropractic Act and its accompanying Bylaws
